“Got more than I bargained for coming in here. Wasn't even sure the gaff was open but I opened the door to about 15 women on a hen do sat around the bar. That was my nice quiet schooner out the window I tell you now. Had my stomach signed, put lippy on the bride and saw someone neck a bottle of something I've never heard of in the first 10 minutes. Really felt for John behind the bar, that bloke had his work cut out for him. Hope he was on time and a half that day. Anyway, congratulations to the bride, hope all goes well. He must a brave old boy. I wouldn't want to meet a man fearless enough to pop the question to her”
“A cosy old pub in the main street of Canowindra, the fire was roaring as the wind blew outside, the staff and the locals were friendly and the menu showed plenty of promise. I was pretty hungry so went for some Cheesy Garlic Bread to start and then the Fisherman's Basket, and my partner had some Tempura Prawns (or similar I cant remember and will explain why). As the minutes ticked by I was starving and as soon as the Cheesy Garlic Bread hit the table I was into it - and it was so good, and by the time we had nearly finished it I realised I had to leave room for the main but plenty of times a Fisherman's can be little more that small serve of fish n chips plus a random calamari. Well when it came out I knew I was in trouble, I'm not sure if it was meant for 2 people but the basket was as big as my head and I knew I had a hard slog to do this justice. Now quantity is one thing but the quality was outstanding and last time I checked Canowindra isn't anywhere near the ocean, it had plenty of small fillets, battered prawns, perfectly cooked calamari, crumbed scallops, all sitting on a bed of crisp chips. I'm embarrassed to say it beat me, the first time ever a Fisherman's has gotten the better of me, I hated leaving anything behind but I left in a delightful food coma (hence why I cant remember what my other half had).”
“We didn't stay at the hotel, but a group of us had dinner in the dining room on 3rd Sep and Kath and the gals she had helping cooked the greatest steaks and up-sold us on some super cheesecake. Was a great evening! We were very well looked after. Thanks!”
“Loved the good ol' country vibe here. The staff member in the pub was welcoming, energetic and lively. Steak was cooked right, even though dinner took a little longer to come out. Made no mis-steak coming here at all!”
